Best Protein Powder Without Sucralose

Protein powders from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database whose labels list no sucralose, ranked by how completely the label discloses what is in the product.

Why People Avoid Sucralose

Sucralose is a chlorinated sucrose derivative about 600 times sweeter than sugar. FDA approved it as a sweetener in 1998, and it is the most common sweetener in flavored protein powders.

People avoid it for several reasons: aftertaste, GI symptoms in some users, and open questions from small human and animal studies about effects on gut bacteria and glucose response. In 2023 the World Health Organization advised against using non-sugar sweeteners for weight control. None of this establishes harm at the amounts in a scoop of protein, but it is a reasonable preference, and labels make it hard to act on.

Products without sucralose may still contain other sweeteners such as stevia, monk fruit, acesulfame potassium, or sugar alcohols. The table notes these where the label lists them.
