Why People Avoid Soy
Vitamin D is fat-soluble, so softgels and drops dissolve it in oil, and soybean oil is one of the cheapest carriers. Soy lecithin and soy-derived tocopherols also show up in softgels.
Highly refined soybean oil carries very little soy protein and is exempt from allergen labeling, so most people with soy allergy tolerate it. People with severe allergy, or who avoid soy for other reasons, can choose products in olive, sunflower, safflower, or MCT oil instead.
Because the filter reads every mention, a label whose allergen statement names the ingredient, even to say the product is free of it, is also dropped. The list errs toward leaving products out.
