Quick verdict. Turmeric powder delivers food-level curcumin, about 15 mg per 500 mg capsule. Curcumin with piperine supplies a real dose, and piperine raised plasma curcumin about twentyfold in one small study, but it also slows the clearance of many drugs. Choose curcumin with piperine for joint pain if you take no medications with narrow dosing margins; turmeric powder belongs in cooking.
