Best Protein Powder Without Artificial Sweeteners

Protein powders from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database whose labels list no artificial sweeteners, ranked by how completely the label discloses what is in the product.

Why People Avoid Artificial Sweeteners

Most flavored protein powders are sweetened with sucralose, acesulfame potassium, or both, because they add sweetness without calories or cost. Aspartame is less common in powders because it breaks down with heat and time.

The reasons to avoid them are mostly preference and uncertainty rather than proven harm: aftertaste, GI symptoms in some people, and small studies raising questions about gut bacteria and glucose response. The World Health Organization advised against non-sugar sweeteners for weight control in 2023.

This list removes every product whose label names one of these sweeteners. Many survivors use stevia, monk fruit, sugar alcohols, or sugar instead, and the table notes which.

Ranked by label detail (stated amounts, named forms, a complete other-ingredients list), then by fewest other ingredients. The ranking reflects what the label discloses, not product testing, purity, or efficacy.

Open Supplement Search, choose the Protein Powder tab, and turn on the "Artificial sweeteners" chip under Exclude products containing. This page also requires a listed other-ingredients panel, since a label without one cannot show what it leaves out, so its count runs lower than the search page's.
